Working with a Wiki

One thing that I have always wanted to was to work with a team on a project with with a Wiki. Not only with a wiki, but at least to use one as a central repository of domain knowledge and as a whiteboard for brainstorming and planning.
The thing is, it’s really hard to teach someone [...]

Follow the money : VCs and Startups

It starts with this great perspective on The Long Tail of Venture Deals (summary : not worth it if you are not top 3). They see opportunities in the blogospehre, ad market, new media and marketing companies. Hey it’s a great time to be an investor.

Another two point zero : Enterprise 2.0

As noted previously, the 2.0 meme is in full effect. This time, it’s Enterprise 2.0. I guess it is the opposite of Enterprisey? However, maybe because I think enterprise development/software really need a breath of fresh air, it seems to make more sense in this context…

Henceforth known as the H/B S/T ratio…

Quote of the day :
Schneier on Security: Human/Bear Security Trade-Off :
There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists.
When taken in the context of the original post it\’s even better.

This morning’s episode is brought to you by the number “2″ and the letter “p”

Read 10 definitions of Web 2.0 and their shortcomings this morning and it left me with that queesy feeling about the “2.0″ labeling goind around these days (for those not following, office and bizdev are the latest two-point-oh to be coined).
I really dont like this 2.0 thing, I understand that it is an easy shortcut [...]

Building a web startup from scratch

I am starting a new serie of posts on building a web/internet startup from scratch. This is something I did a few times in the last 10 years. Reading Guy Kawasaki giving great advice for CEO of startups and Seth Godin doing the same thing for the marketing side, I tought that the CTOs of [...]

Counting what counts

Finding good questions is probably as much important as good answers. Since most of my turf is on emerging technology, asking the right questions sure is a way to demonstrate that we at least understand the guinding principles of driving forces in any specific context. That’s why I like Mark Cuban's question about hits and [...]

10 years of Flash - but what happened to Director?

Following a post by Anil Dash on Flash’s 10th birthday, Marc Canter (he knows the story pretty well!) has a great question :
Why wasn't vector based animation put into Director?
Good one. I was a director “integrator” in the mid nineties, working in the Montreal equivalent of Silicon Alley industry, coding and jamming sound, music and [...]

Source Control : anything but sourcesafe!

Great little recap and topical linkfest : Source Control - Anything But SourceSafe. Subversion is way up there (as it should). To quote :
I don't mean to pick on SourceSafe here. It was a perfectly adequate source control system in the late 90’s. Unfortunately, SourceSafe was never updated architecturally to reflect modern source control practices. [...]

Clean up your feeds!

I know, I know, options are nice and all. But 10 freakin urls to subscribe to TreeHugger? Please!! (I did pick up this one hope it’s the right one, it had to most subscribers in Bloglines).
It’s something I see more and more browsing feeds. There might be several options for developpers, but for a [...]
