2.0 eh? YUL rules!

Marc at Tungle goes for a top corner goal with his canadian startup rah-rah… This is a growing trend, as another Mark has been covering at Maple Leaf 2.0. Indeed. Mobivox. Akoha. Standoutjobs. iLoveToPlay. Librivox. Collectik. Wikitravel. CakeMail. Stars of the web. Kakiloc. Growwwing. Sherpa. Inpowr. Praized (ok I cheated, the last two I am part of those).

That’s just local startups in Montreal that I can remember from the top of my head… And 20 sites/blogs about the local culture of tech and startups. And 50 more entrepreneurs I won't list now (that’s for another post). Lots of great VCs too (yeah, yeah, another post!)

We do miss a bit of angel culture here, I think. But the energy level is incredible. Real projects. Passionate geeks and entrepreneurs. A creative culture and a DNA of ingenious inventors (we call them “patenteux” in Québec, it has nothing to do with patents but about making stuff that works, sometimes against all odds).

And don't forget. We are the hometown of Softimage, Jamdat, Airborne… (ahhh this could be a long list, another post says I, declaration of “it’s late” if there’s one). So yeah. I am pumped. Are you? Sure, this call with some VCs really interested in Praized at the end of the afternoon has nothing to do with it. Or so I might say. ;-)

Help me with this list in the comments, great Montreal Technology startups, that is most probably a great topic for the YulStart Wiki (that does not quite exist yet, but feel free to make it happen)… Ok, enough late night rambling, I am going out on the town, another great Montreal tradition!
