Widgetizing?! Can we use Atomizing instead?

Clearspring Changes the Game for Widgetizing Web Content :

As social networks and web content become more open and shareable, its been quite amazing to see the world of widgets unfold. What we??re seeing now is solidification of certain widget companies as providing standards for general use, and an increasingly consolidated feature set for both startups and established widget services. So widget companies aren??t just for making widgets, but they??re also widget directories, vehicles for advertisement networks, a source for metrics, and a resource for developers.

That’s the juicy morsel of this nice summary on Mashable about bits of content and applications flowing on the network. Well, maybe one day the neologism will stick… Dave Pollard was the first to use “atomization” in 2005 (and I like it much more than deportalization), he stated :

it is very conceivable that software offerings could atomize into a World of ‘Microapplication' Ends

Remeber, this was pre-facebook (et al.), really insightful in retrospect. The web canonical definition is not bed either, metaphorically. More on Technorati under Atomization.
